Traveling from Northeast IN to Norfolk, VA

Me, my two daughters, 9 &11 are driving the northern route through OH, PA, Maryland, WA to Norfolk, VA and taking the southern route through NC, TN, and KY back home to northeast Indiana.
I'm trying to find great stops along the trip to see sites and do things with my girls! Does anyone know of some great places?? I'm already looking in the White House, Shenandoah Caverns, Williamsburg area, I'd love to know great shelling beaches in VA, also looking at lost sea caverns in TN, and a stop in Nashville just not sure where!

I'd consider a couple of the following:

In addition to what you mentioned, I'd consider the Carnegie Museum of Natural History in Pittsburgh with its dinosaur displays, maybe the Rock and Roll Museum in Cleveland, the Mammoth Caverns in Kentucky (may be too far east based upon your planned route), Gettysburg (not only the battlefields but also the local restaurants which were stopping points on the blacks' "Underground Railroad" to freedom prior to the war.)

In Nashville, there is a Country Music Hall of Fame, as well as the Grand Ole Opry and the Opryland amusement park. If you go down to the "Wild Horse Saloon", you can often get free tickets to country shows being taped in town. In Hershey PA is both the chocolate factory and the Hersheyland amusement park.

In Baltimore, take them to the Inner Harbor area and visit the wonderful aquarium. In Washington DC be sure they get to the Aviation Museum (the most visited building on the planet), and let them go to the Bureau of Printing and Engraving where all the money is printed.

Enjoy
