US East Coast Roadtrip

Don't you mean East Coast. ..?

I'd personally cut at least 4 out of the 5 days of LA at the end of the trip. It's a grey and dismal city, with far too heavy traffic, and even its "star attractions" like Hollywood are a big disappointment. "Faded glory" is the most positive way I can think of describe it.

I'd personally add another day to Yosemite; never been in March, but even with road closings, there should be enough hiking around on the valley floor (and at Mariposa) to easily fill that, and you might want to give yourself some flexibility in case of bad weather.
San Francisco could also do with another day (not strictly necessary, but useful), and then the remaining for seeing Highway 1 in more depth. Santa Cruz, Monterey and the many beaches and coves around Big Sur.

You'll probably want to put an extra day or so in Sequoia/Kings Canyon and Yosemite national parks to explore; and you'll probably want to stop along the winding roads to see the views.

See this link for travel routes: http://www.nps.gov/seki/planyourvisit/driving-directions.htm.

Three or four days in SF is fine. Then drive the Pacific Coast Highway to Los Angeles, spending perhaps a night in Carmel. Sander is too tough on LA. I lived there for several years and would recommend at least a couple of days there to end your trip. Stay on the West Side, perhaps in Santa Monica or other beach cities to relax before going home. LA is a string of communities. It isn't all tinsel and sparkle, even if Hollywood is faded and perhaps not worth visiting.

But don't take my word, or anyone else's. We all have different life experiences, interests and perceptions. Go see for yourself. Explore!

P.S. For flexibility, there's no need to book hotels and motels in advance. There are lots of options, except perhaps in the national parks. But you will not be there during the peak season.
