EHIC covers you for medical care (assuming you're keeping to countries covered), as it's just the reciprocal arrangement for the NHS.
But you say you want insurance cover for your possessions, it won't do any of that
Although you are only really betting with the insurance company that you get robbed - are you planning on travelling with high value items? Personally I'd carry the risk myself, as it's a loser's bet - they will charge for the statistical risk, plus their admin costs and profit. By the time you have had an excess deducted it isn't worth it for small amounts.
