Dear Kelly,
Thailand is arguably the easiest "foreign" backpacker destination on the planet. Millions upon millions of budget backpackers have gone before you. Thailand has a great tourist infrastructure in place, there's no need to be intimidated. Simply head to Khao San Road and you'll be avalanched with nervous first timers, same as yourself. It's super easy to meet other travellers. In fact, if you stay on the Gringo Trail like most first time backpackers you'll likely tire of always being surrounded by other people just like yourself and you might want to venture off the beaten path a little.
That said, your initial questions are very general. Thailand is covered in great detail by all the major guide books and Google. I'd suggest you do a little research first then come back with slightly more specific questions.
Have fun, it's a great destination.
Cheers,
Terry
No offence Sabir04, but your constant posting of your cell number feels kinda creepy and desperate. Perhaps you should consider contributing to some of the travel threads here with your own experiences instead of trying to hook-up for your trip that's still a whole year away still.
All the best to you.
Cheers,
Terry

There are some cultures that see women from Western countries as easy pickings and will flop in bed with just about any male that asks them. Be careful when meeting strangers! Do not invite them to your hotel without prior screening.
You really don't need to meet up with anyone to have a good time. You do meet other tourists in hotels or hostels and on tours and sometimes just eating in restaurants and walking around.
"Any advice for full moon party?"
Yeah, usually more men than women go there! Don't get so wasted on alcohol you do things you would not do at home. Make Google your friend and do searches on how to get there, safety, etc. Some hoops to jump through to get to Koh Phangan.
You can ride elephants in several places. There is some disagreement if this is beneficial to elephants or harmful. Humans have been riding elephants for thousands of years if you can trust Google. Some tourists complain that humans treat elephants badly. But on the other hand if they run wild farmers kill them with poison or shoot them when they invade their farms. They also get hit by trailer trucks on highways and by trains.
Chiang Mai and not too far from Bangkok you will find places where you can visit with or see elephants. Do a search for more information.
There are monkeys here and there. There is Monkey Beach off the coast of Pattaya at Koh Larn. But Lopburi might be better. BE CAREFUL because loose monkeys sometimes run off with sunglasses, purses, hats, maybe even your cell phones too! Tourists have been bitten by wild monkeys too. (Also avoid getting too friendly with stray dogs. They don't always have rabies shots!)
My advice is to begin in Bangkok and end in Bangkok with a final few days before flying home.
You must use Thai baht in Thailand. No problem changing your currency in Thailand after you arrive. You will get a better rate changing money in Thailand than back home. Also if you intend to use a debit or credit card you should tell your bank first that you will be overseas. Otherwise the bank might block your withdrawals because they suspect fraud. Read up on this on this forum and do a Google check.
Do a search for scams to avoid. Know how to use taxis in Bangkok.
Even an old fashioned paper travel guide can be helpful.
From this forum:
Do some research on your own! Do a Google search for "solo woman traveling Thailand" or similar phrase and you should get several links. Like men, too often when women get in trouble it is after consuming too much alcohol!
Hello Kelly,
Just my couple cents, I think karazyal and Terry covered it pretty well...do your research and always err on side of caution. I have never been to Full Moon and all that but as said, pace yourself on the alcohol.
A few you can look into:
It is a bit controversial depends on who you ask on animal "working" for a living but at least elephants have been domesticated and worked for Thai's since early history even as war animals just like anywhere else, so taking a couple people on a short stroll thru the woods is huge step up and imho, probably no too cruel lol. Anyway, here are couple places you can consider:
1. http://www.thailandelephant.org/en/ (sponsored by he royal family)
2. http://www.elephantnaturepark.org/
3. http://www.elephantsworld.org/
4. http://www.blesele.org/
5. http://www.chiangmaizoo.peam.biz/ - we go every time we visited Chiang Mai but last time we went, we saw they offered elephant rides for 100THB for 20 minutes or something like that, which I think is quite reasonable in price and I believe the animals are treated well.
Domesticated tigers I don't like so much but here is one friends from US visited in Chiang Mai and seemed to have enjoyed it and said animals were treated with respect and not drugged) - Up close and personal with tigers, looks scary to me.

Have fun, be safe!!
wow thanks guys, this info is wonderful....ive done so much research but still feel so ill prepared aghhh
Hi Kelly,
I am arriving in Bangkok on 31st Jan too as solo traveller (from the UK), but because I am solo I've booked trips...so far planned:
Arrive in Bangkok on Sunday 31st Jan, staying in a hostel that I've booked for the night then spending the next day there to explore. Then getting the over night train to Chiang Mai (which is supposed to be an awesome experience!) then on the 1st from Chiang Mai I'm doing a Hill tribe trek (booked through G adventures) spending time walking with a group through the forest, waterfalls, the jungle seeing the wildlife and learning about the tribes and bush food and local medicines etc.
Then I'm flying down to Phuket and doing Island hopping on the west coast (better weather) with a flexi-hopper pass. I really wanted to do a day at an elephant conservation to help feed and wash the elephants, but not ride as apparently they are treated really badly!! But most day trips only allow two people to book on in a booking....yet I'm solo! Annoying! All of this is last minute for me too (booked it last week) and am very nervous being a solo female too! Have you got much planned now?
Hannah
