Travelling to Japan

Hi, I am planning on going to Japan and have done some research about where to go - just wanting to get a feel from other travellers where they loved, how much they recommend to save for a 2 week holiday - is this enough time? should I go more? I am wanting to go for cherry blossom season and I am not a skiier lol

My TP Blogo has the story of my time in & Iksushima with it's famous Torii gate.

I would have liked to have spent a few days on the island but my cruise ship moved on. Any amount of time you can afford to stay Japan would be worthwhile - there is lots to see.

Click the 'previous' button to see my earlier stops in Kyoto, Kobe, Osaka & Okinawa. It might give you some ideas.

Japan is a fascinating place to visit & I will go back one day to see the Cherry trees in blossom.

Happy travels
Steve

We were in Japan for two months from mid April to Mid May, and we loved it. Cherry blossom season is great; not only is it beautiful, it is great to see how excited the Japanese get about it. You do need to book up accommodation early though, especially in Kyoto.

You could easily spend two weeks just in Kyoto if you wanted to, but there are so many other places too. Of the places we visited Tokyo, Nara, Nikko, Matsumoto, Hiroshima and Miyajima were all well worth seeing.

Do try to fit in seeing a festival if you can, they are excellent experiences.

In terms of travelling alone, obviously I can't say as we travel as a couple, but if you stay in hostels etc rather than hotels, you can usually meet people there - the mix of people in hostels in Japan is far more varied than somewhere like Australia. Also, we found that if we sat in a Japanese bar and showed interest in local drinks etc, we would often end up in conversation with someone.

We do keep a small blog, but it is terribly out of date at present, so I haven't posted about Japan yet. But I am catching up, so it may be worth checking it out in a month or so if you are still planning, or just want some idea of what you can see. It is www.aroundtheworldin8000days.blogspot.com
