Staying in Bangkok for few days....Whats the best places to go there? Im kinda shy, but I wanna meet lotsa people, is it easy??
Then im headed to Khon Khaen to visit someone and see some things
Then fly back to Bangkok and take bus/train to the islands....any suggestions?
I got a hotel for 5 nights around the full moon partty but hopefully I will meet people and figure out my way and what parts to stay because I will be winging the rest of the trip....then somehow get back to bangkok for my flight home
I really want to ride or see elephants and the tigers....wheres best place?
I want a tattoo...to see temples....full moon party...see animals and meet lotsa lotsa people

I just join the forum and instead of asking my questions, I answer you first :-)
You will like Thailand, Asians are more friendly people compared to the west, especially the Thai but Asian planes are never as safe as Europe or western countries.
So since you are alone, my best advice to you is to be extra careful anyone. Try not to be alone or alone with anymore unless you are really interested with person and prepared for any consequences.
There are too many interesting places to visit especially Bangkok. You have to google and find out, difficult to give you suggestions without knowing what's your interests.
Since you mentioned soul searching, I think you should visit some Buddhist Temples and one of them gave free meditation class of around 2 hours is Wat Mahathat, near Khao San area where most westerners and backpackers like to stay.
Bangkok's top attraction is the Grand Palace(ask for the free English tour that starts at 10.00 am sharp) and just beside it is the Sleeping Buddha Temple. Near there, you can also visit the very nice National Museum or take a cheap ferry all along the best part of the Chao Phraya River(a must-do) and get off near the Chinatown Yaowarat, a large area for cheap Chinese food, better visited at night, due to the day heat. The Grand Palace ticket also allow you to visit the Vinmamek Mansion, the best ancient wooden Palace/house to visit.
For the best Shopping Malls, I will visit Centralworld(near to the recent bombing place) at Siam Square, and from there you can walk to most of the other top Malls like Siam Paragon, Siam Center, Ploenchit Center and along Sukhimvit Road, there is Terminal 21(very cheap and best varieties of Thai food inside a shopping Mall) and the new Emquartier(don't miss the roof top garden) opposite Emporium. All these are the "comfortable" malls. The other shopping experience are Chatuchat weekend market(said to the the world's biggest outdoor market), Silom night market(near to Bangkok's famous nightlife area). Pratunam area(near to Centralworld), for cheap clothings where locals shop and of course the Floating Markets, but mostly quite far away.
The nearest attraction to Bangkok and also the nearest beach resort is overcrowded Pattaya.
If you are interest to see local life and the canals, take a canal boat(be very careful getting in and out) near Centralworld and travel to other end of the canal(different from the Chao Phraya River I mentioned earlier) like a local for less than a dollar. OH...I should leak this secret out.
And try the local food, traditional Thai massage, visit some morning and night markets and some Buddhist temples, these are the most authentic Thai experience.

If you go for full moon party, it's somewhere in Ko Samui. Best Island to spend a few days are probably Ko Samui or Phuket. I just realise you are there for 2 months, you can explore the whole country !!

Sorry, the CNY falls on February 8th. The best time to visit for the festival will be Bangkok Chinatown from the 6th and 7th evening and Chiang Mai Chinatown on the 9th or 10th evening.

full moon party is on an island called koh phangan, its between koh samui and ko tao
easiest way to get there for me was to fly from bangkok don muang airport to surat thani with air asia and include the bus and boat ticket as saves a lot of hassle
i was there last year but did the half moon party which is more my style
i did the north of thailand, chiang mai/rai, pai and loved it. saw tigers and elephants, but wold not do it again unless it was a well known elephant sanctuary that people recommend. im glad i tried it to make my own mind up of it though
you have the freedom to travel overland but air asia do cheap flights and were always safe when i used them and never late or delayed. you could go from bangkok to chiang mai, then fly to surat thani from there. i got a 1 way flight from as little as £25 and only takes 1 hr or so

hiee everyone.. im a 24 male from pakistan.. planning on a solo trip to thailand for new years. i would love some suggestions regarding how i should plan my trip and where should i stay.. my tentative plan says that i'll reach bangkok on 24th dec .. stay for 3 nights.. leave for samui on 27th.. stay in chewang KC over water villas for 3 nights.. then i plan to go to koh phangan for full moon on 30th dec.. stay there till 2nd dec.. if i'd still have some energy to party more i'll grab a ferry or some cheap way possible to reach phuket.. where i'll stay for 2 nights and then back home on 4th 5th January.
i'd like to have suggestions esp regarding how should i stay in phangan?. i'd really like some suggestions from other solo traveler who have been there on new years or something.. and where should i stay? ive chalked out this much that no matter what i have to stay in haad rin area.. but the hotels and hostels are showing some really expensive rates online on different sites.. some of my friends who have been to normal full moon parties suggest that i should take a chance and go there n then see my options because according to them they found reasonable hostels as cheap as 500 800 baht per night and they stayed there for 3 nights.. for now the cheapest hostels that im able to find are giving me 2500 baht per night for one bed in shared dormitory and they also enforce a minimum stay of 5 nights.. any valuable suggestions are welcome.
lastly i'd love if someone from any part of the world would want to join me for the trip.. we can share the costs and that would be feasible for both of us.. and i promise to be a nice company... looking forward to your responses..
