Hello
I'm Cath, I'm 26, and just gearing up to travel Asia- I'm thinking Thailand, Cambodia, Loas, all the usual suspects, then also Bali, Singapore and Indonesia!
I'm hoping to find a travel buddy as a littel scared of going alone! Looking to go May onwards.
If anyone else is in the same boat please do get in touch
Hi..I m sabir from India. I have same plan to go thailand.I m also not like to travel alone.what is your date to travel in thailand
Hey, I am in Bali end of March, then SE ASIA including Thailand and Cambodia until end June ...not got much of a plan yet
You are piling on quite a few countries. It may be doable if you have enough time and money.
A little research beforehand will pay of later on.
Each country has different entry requirements based on the country passport you present when arriving.
Some countries may require proof of onward travel. That means a verifiable flight out of the country in a certain amount of time. (Thailand for instance; arrive on a one way ticket you need a Visa you pay for ahead of time or if you plan on entering free you need a plane ticket out before 30 days is up.) Proof of onward travel may be asked for at your departure airport in your home country.
You must understand how to have access to spending money during your trip. Don't rely on a single debit card for your spending money. That card can be lost or stolen from a random friend you meet overseas. Have a back up credit card in case of emergencies. Remember to notify your banks that you will be using their cards overseas before leaving home. Otherwise any ATM use may be blocked because the bank suspects fraud.
I personally do not use debit (or credit) cards for ordinary cheap purchases. I use my card in an ATM and withdraw cash. For purchases such as meals, bar tabs, souvenirs and other cheap things - I use cash! I don't want to expose my debit card account numbers and chance credit card fraud.
Of the Asian countries on your list Singapore will be the most expensive. But if you usually use expensive hotels you probably won't notice any difference.
Always think safety! If you plan to meet up with strangers meet in a safe location and not your hotel. Some guys see a "friendly female" on her own they suspect you are looking for a date. Always think safety first!
Do a forum and GOOGLE search for "solo woman traveling to (fill in the blank)" or "woman traveling alone" type questions. Look at a map and plan your route. Keep in mind any weather issues you may encounter. Maybe look into some type of travel health insurance too.
You do meet people on the road. Most will be okay. However, you may meet some fellow tourists who will be real skunks and some might even expect you to share your money with them. Always think safety!
Work up a budget and see how much you have for day to day spending after allowing for plane tickets. My advice if you haven't got enough money to pay for a cheap hotel each night and you must always stay in crappy places and eating crappy food - don't go for so long and see fewer countries at one time so you have more money each day. Got a lot of money - no problem!
Don't plan on working overseas to augment your spending money. You might find something under the table but you will probably be working illegally or doing something you won't be telling your mother about. Some countries may require a work permit.
Make Google your friend for quick advice. But verify that information for accuracy.
Hi Cath
I am totally interested in coming with you. I am also scared of travelling by myself. I would love to do Asia and Australia/New Zealand. I don't know how you feel about doing Australia/New Zealand also but I thought I would mention it. Where are you from?
