Round the world trip for 1 year

My girlfriend and I want to travel the world for 1 year. We will have about £24500 ($37300) and we will be mainly staying in hostels. We want to visit China, India, Southeast Asia and Indonesia for about 4.5 months. Australia and New Zealand for about 6 weeks overall. Central America for 2.5 months and South America for 3.5 months. They are just rough guides. We will be mainly travelling over land from place to place and only flying when it's necessary. Do we have enough money? Any advice and tips welcome, thanks

it is a tight budget for 2 people, im doing the same sort of thing, and ill have £15k minimum to take with me. Maybe its slightly more than i need but i would rather have it. Unless you plan to pay for a rtw flight path before you go, then you might be able to do it, but will still be tight in my opinion

check this site out for a rough daily spend budget for each country. i've done a spreadsheet with all the countries, daily budget (this is just hostal & food) and rough time in days in each country. this will give you a little idea to go by

im also buying this guide to have a look through for help

Getting from Europe to Asia; and from Asia to Australia/New Zealand isn't likely to bust your travel budget; but getting from Australia/New Zealand to South America will be expensive, as there isn't much competition on the routes (the usual gateway is Santiago, Chile). Play around with your itinerary, then check Skyscanner and Kayak for potential flights. Think outside the box. Sometimes it's cheaper to double back to get to your destination. I don't recommend 'round-the-world tickets these days, as you reduce flexibility; and won't save much money, if at all. I crisscross the globe each year; and manage to keep on budget by tracking my expenditures. That also helps in future travel planning.

Cheers for the advice guys. I know it's quite a tight budget and we may end up working for a bit teaching English or we might have to shorten our trip. After looking at the link you sent me Mattfozz27 I feel more confident about our budget though. A lot of the places we are going to are well below our budget after I've taken potential flight costs, visas and other expenses into account. I know Australia and New Zealand will be very expensive though. Fortunately I have family in both Oz and New Zealand so that will help a bit. We are also looking at couchsurfing as an option too. Thanks for your advice and the links you have sent us. It's very much appreciated

no worries, happy to help

always good doing a little research to put your mind at ease. I have family in Oz too and some friends in NZ.

Im sure you will have an amazing time
