hi,
Hi!
I recently came across with this website about bus services in peru...

Happy travels!
Ps: sorry for the gf - i am sure you will find some nice company on the journey...
Peru has excellent bus services, however if you are alone, you will arrive to your destination say Cuzco from Lima, exhausted and hungry after the 24 hour ride, GET AWAY from the bus terminals and the areas around them ASAP after arrival, take only authorized taxis and have the exact address of a Cuzco hotel or hostal in hand, en espanol, for your taxi driver, act like you know where you are going! Bus terminals, the areas around them are the most dangerous places in all Latin America, do not accept rides from strangers, especially overly friendly 'guides' who speak English, nor walk around with a backpack the areas surrounding the bus terminal after dark, seeking cheap lodging especially if your Spanish is not good, try and find a travel companion on this site, there is a forum for that and remember things go a bit more slowly in Latin America than they do at home, you may have to adjust your fixed schedule after arrival. Book your Macchu Pichhu tour in Cuzco, Lima has 9,000,000 people and some areas of the city dangerous day or night unless you know your way around, take caution.
When riding public transport around Lima take very little cash and only a copy of your passport and entry stamp, lock up everything else in your lodging place.
Yeah. I'm going in mid season, so hopefully there will be plenty of other lone transports about. Ik going to get a prepaid debit card, and withdraw us dollars and exchange that into more relevant currency. I'm hoping to book the hostels in advance, and aim to stay where English speaking travellers stay. If not, I'll stay in Lima for 29 nights Til my flight home haha. Do u recommend booking the machu picchu train before I leave, or book it when I arrive in cuzco.
I recommend booking in Cuzco, there you have several agencies and compare prices, never pay for anything in advance in Latin America, I think this web site is able to help you plan your trip, ask Isadora, the administrator, there is also a Peru country guide on travellerspoint, often one gets some rather lame answers on the forums.
lol, i think thats what i'm going to do, just have the first few nights in lima, doing a few trips, seeing the city. then getting a bus to cuzco and just winging it. i might book hostels from the place before instance. the day before i leave lima, book a hostel in cuzco. probably stay in Loki hostels.
Had a friend who went to Peru with her boyfriend last year and stayed in Loki hostels, had a wonderful time all around, if you are traveling alone best stay in places where there will be other travelers and hook up if the vibes are right, enjoy yourself, you are not running a marathon you are going on vacation, entonces, buen viaje y buena suerte.
Traveling alone for a first-timer will be slightly difficult but as you get the hang of it, becomes easier.. By the way there are bus services and flight services from Lima to Cuzo..
travelling alone is the best way to go if you ask me. I have done both, 5 months alone in oz and nz, and 6 weeks in asia with a friend..... you meet way more people on your own than you would while travelling with someone else. That said i will be in Peru from 5th july with 2 friends. we plan on staying a day or 2 in Lima and then heading on to Cuzco. We have already booked the Inca Trail tour as it books up quickly. From what i can tell, if you want to do the Inca trail itself, you need to prebook, otherwise there are other (cheaper) tours you can do that go to Machu Pichu also.
You will have a great time guaranteed.
thanks for the info guys, yeah im feeling that ive set a lot of days in each place, which has allowed for overruns and stuff, do a lot of the hostels have english speaking owners? or at least employees? im guessing loki should have.
Im just a little nervous about getting the wrong bus or getting to copacobana and there not being any buses from there on to la paz.....
