hi my names Francis i am traveling round america for 5 weeks with my best friend james.
we start at san Francisco then to vegas having 4 days in each location then a break to travel to new Orleans and then upto new york then Miami, we have booked hotels for san fran, new york and Miami, we have both got £6000 so a total of £12000 we are worried that this wont be enough to do al trips and site seeing and find accommodation, we dont mind staying in hostels as we are both young lads! we love to party aswell and i have herd that drinking in america is very pricey!! any advice for us would help? this is my first post as-well so thanks again!!
Everything in the US is expensive. I just paid $21. for a watermelon this morning (I was shocked, and I'm US born)!
It all depends on which neighborhood and which city you hang out in. NYC and SF are probably the most expensive, but even there you can find less expensive places (in NYC eat in the ethnic neighborhoods of Queens for Chinese, Latin American food, etc.) and in (SF eat in the Mission District for good Mexican food - be sure to try the Mission Burrito at Pancho Villa on 16th St.)
Get tips here and on other sites like Tripadvisor. I used to find nice accommodations in Brooklyn, NY when I was in NYC (they have shared apartments for very low prices - I paid $79.)
San Francisco neighborhoods that are less expensive:
Potrero and Potrero Hill
Mission District
Richmond District (best for all Asian food, especially Clement St.)
Sunset District
(avoid pricey Union Square, Marina/Pacific Heights, Telegraph Hill)
New York City neighborhoods that are less expensive:
Queens
Brooklyn
Staten Island
(avoid pricey Manhattan)
