Hello.
Next spring I am travelling to Poland and would like to know what learned travellers would recommend as their preference on public transport options from Warsaw to Krakow.
Thank you very much.
Hi.
If you want to go by train: http://intercity.pl/en/
by coach: www.polskibus.com
or plane: http://www.lot.com/pl/pl/web/newlot/home
Just check prices and decide :-) Plane is the fastest of course:-)
Last time i did the trip was by train, cheap, clean and fairly reliable.
the journey itself isn't spectacular, but you get to see some countryside
definitely train - there is one almost every hour, journey by EIC or EX lasts approx 3 hours. A bit worse standard but twice as cheap trains are TLK and IR - around 3 hours, 20 minutes ride
I'll be in Poland around early July
was wondering if Warsaw was worth going too??
I'm flying from Brussels to Warsaw at the moment cause it's direct, quick and cheap, flying to Krakow looked painful with massive lay-overs and more expensive
Hello Jkay!
I am not an expert in Poland, just my thoughts after spending nearly a month traveling around on various locations back on Januaru/February 2011.
Most people praise Krakow and there is a reason for this. WW2 bombings destroyed a large part of many Polish cities and lots of ruins were replaced with ungly sobiet buildings. Some cities have beautifully recunstructed their old towns. This is not the case for Krakow. Historic center survived WW2 and as Krakow was the "capital" city of mideval Polish kings, there are many beautiful forts, chapels, squares and cobbled streets surviving. Most places of interest are to be found on a small geographical area too, in walking distance from each other. Many nightlife options and decent shoppping and eating options.
That said, I find that feedback on most travelers' forums for Warsaw are unfair. Usually Krakow is more reccomended than Warsaw or Warsaw gets harsh comments. It is an interesting city with lots to see and do. Presidential Palace, Royal Castle, Old and New Town Squares, Marie Curie museum and a couple of very pleasant Gardens/PArks, were all in walking distance in the city center. A decent Archeological Museum and F. Chopin's museum among other things were in a further walking distance or a quick bus ride away. A couple of great parks/palaces such as Lazienski and Wilanow were 20 minutes bus ride on the outskirts. Nightlife and eating was reasonable and plenty. Many shopping malls on bus routes 10 minutes away from the tourist center...
Maybe due to some direct flights from UK and other places, I found Krakow very beautiful but somehow more touristy than Warsaw. I think on Warsaw you may get a more diverse and original view of how Polish live, but of course this might vary on time of the year and decision lays on your interests/traveling style.
Whatever you decide to do, have a nice trip!!!
