I AM LOOKING AT TRAVELLING TO ENGLAND, IRELAND, SCOTLAND AND TO AMSTERDAM BY MYSELF FOR A MONTH IN OCTOBER.
Depends what you want to do and see?
For time in London, forget a car. But for exploring Scotland, Ireland and rural England, it works very well. The distances for driving make sense and a car is much better than public transport for getting to all the small sights. Our public transport isn't great.
If it were me, I'd spend some time in London and do Amsterdam as a break from there using cheap flights (most probably EasyJet or RyanAir). Then head up-country by car. I'd be tempted to pick up a car after you're out of London unless you're confident with traffic. You could easily dot via sights like Oxford, Stratford, Lincoln, York, Durham. None of those are more than an hour or two apart. The Lake District would be a highlight for me, then a couple of hours drive up to central Scotland and off into the Highlands - up the west coast from Glasgow is the best route I think. Once you're done there a cheap flight over to Dublin and pick up a car to do Ireland.
Sorry can't advise on tours, I'm a local and haven't ever come across them.
If you give an idea of what you'd like to see and do I can make suggestions.
Cheers,
Andy
