Just go. If you can afford Indonesia you can afford Laos.

I afford Indonesia as I travel with mates, sometimes in a group, and definitely not in VIP buses/cars and private rooms.
Maybe my question was not too clear.
Any recommendation for private room in Vientiane specially, between 60-80000 kips?
And will I get by with around 15000 kips for each day's meals (that's around 2-3 times of eating decent food)?

Since you are looking for a budget accommodation, you should opt for hostels. You can get some really good hostels at cheap rates. If you would like to stay in a hotel you would have to spend more than $20(150000kips). Online reservation is also available at some places. The only expensive place you would find here his Luang Prabang, so avoid visiting that place.
The food here is also very cheap. You would get some really good food for less than $5(35000kips).
Since you are looking for good accommodation and good food, you would have to spend a little extra to meet your needs..

Definitely no hotels for me.
But I really want to see Luang Prabang, otherwise I wouldn't plan for Laos entirely.
Good food is what I have on most days in Jakarta, decent is my term for what I eat for a budget when travelling. Sorry for confusion I made.
I have to use 'modest' to explain it earlier.
But I read more somewhere else, a baguette in Laos costs about 10000 kips, isn't it?
Guess that would be enough for me.

With the budget you have I would only suggest you to stay in hostels. Food is not an issue there, you will get amazing food out there or as you quote 'modest' and at some really good prices.
Sorry I haven't heard about baguette, so you would have to find about it yourself. But if you get in there at such a cheap price it would be best for you.
If you have to visit Luang Prabang you would have to shed out some extra bucks, as it is one of the costliest place in Lao.

When did you visit Laos? And did you go to Vientiane, Luang Prabang and Vang Vieng as well? If you took bus for moving between those cities, did you try on the night bus?

I recently visited Laos, among a few other places in SE Asia and it was my favourite!! Absolutely stunning! As far as accomodation goes I cannot help you on that as I was with a group, but meals are VERY inexpensive. There is a great night market in Luang Prabang with a food stall area, all you can eat for about 10,000 kip delicious!! If you stick to local cuisine you will be fine. I never took any public transport in Laos but I have heard it is very inexpensive as well, but very very long rides. Especially through the winding roads from Vang Vieng to Luang Prabang, definitely made me sick after a while! I hope you enjoy your trip!! If you need any tips on what to see, just let me know!! I hope one day I get to return, it is an extrodinary country.

It's been a couple of years since i visited laos. Yeah i have been to all these places. I am not aware of any night buses, but I wouldn't do it anyhow. Since you would miss the scenery, moreover it's hilly area you wouldn't be able to sleep.
It's just a three hour ride so there is no point traveling at night.

I meant for a much more long ride, from Vientiane to Luang Prabang or the other way around.
Because I can't stop by in Vang Vieng on both ways.
So I gotta lose one day for the long journey or spent it on a night bus- haven't really decided that.
