Kuta on Bali is the main party scene, and what great discos they have there. Go to skygarden, free drinks and food for tourist no entry fee. CRAZY!! more expensive in kuta than rest of bali. And not much to do other than party.
I stayed on a hostel in Sanur, sleepy town but close to Kuta. Met a lot of travellers there. and did have some wild party nights out. We were 14 who decied to go to the gilis, great fun. Stayed in Big Pineapple, highly recommened and cheap dorm style accomodation.
People say Lombok for surfing, great beaches, great waves, although abit of the main route, but getting better.
Forget Gilis for diving and snorkling, the corals are bleached, the beaches are full of dead coral, washed up on the shore. But the islands it self are picturesque.
Go to Komodo national park for diving, better than world class. also easy to get a liveabord there. Did diving with Kanawa Island diving, this is located on an island 2 hours off the main habour. I stayed on the island for 10 days, beautiful and relaxed only 14 huts, and beautifull reefs and corals. saw the komodos, manta rays, turtles, lobsters, octopussies, small sharks, eagle rays, purple dotted rays and dolphins.
Was there in september 2012.
Spent 2300 USD in 4 weeks. 2 domestic plane travels, padi course, diving, snorkling, trekking on komodo, did some sightseeing on bali, rented a car(group), doctors bill, partying, fast boat to gilis and accomodation.

Some great tips there! So an idea might be 2 nights in Kuta then to Lombok to surf and then diving in Komodo National park to finish off.

Try partying in Bali Indonesia amazing beaches. You will surely love Indonesian girls.

It's great you know that you chooose Indonesia this time. Since you're looking for surf, dive and party probably you will like Bali.
For me, Bali (especially Kuta) is really crowded and it's just really touristy.
My recommendations if you want to do it at the different place is, try to surf in Nias, Sumatera and diving in Raja Ampat, Papua.
I don't know what kind of party do you like but if it's just typical regular party to get some drinks, a lots nightclubs can be found here.

Thanks for the advice. I actually just booked my flights to Bali. I have a month in Indonesia.
I think Kuta will be like Bangkok, experience it then get out quite quickly.
I'll look into the surf spots you recommend.

Hi there! I saw this post just today. So, have you been to Bali already this month? Or next month? Bali island would be my best recommendation. Surfing, diving, exquisite restaurants and shopping stores are mostly located in Seminyak. Kuta beach is most of the time the most visited spot because of its awesome beach. The scenery is breathtaking, the place is heaven... so it will definitely be a great vacation for you.
Diving is great in Flores,orld class spot near labuan Bajo,water is realy crystal clear.
U can try Sanur,if you are tired of party,but still good to meet people club with live music such Linga longa bar,its about 300 m from the place we stayed Cafe locca homestay,they have dorm with aircon for around 10 AUS after my friends join me we stayed in twin room with extra bed.Also good deal.
From Sanur is easy take a boat to Nusa Lembogan,also good for diving we have seen enormous mantas there or Crystal bay in Nusa Penida,beach is amazing!
