Hi fellow TP'ers,
Looks good. I've got a couple of thoughts.
Perhaps the word "collaborate" isn't the best - more succinct would be "share" although that probably doesn't put across the same meaning. I just think something in more plain English might suit it better, partly due to those who don't have fluent English, but also as a native English speaker I find collaborate a rather formal word which I'm not sure fits the context. Others may disagree of course!
The other thing, I notice in the options it has temperature (c or f), distance (m or km) and currency - and that these options carry over into the main member control panel. Is it possible to link that currency preference with the accommodation section too? It would seem to make sense, as that currently defaults to USD.

Yeah, collaborate is a mouthful. "Share" sounds like you're going to post it to Facebook for all your friends to look at though. How about "Invite" or "Add Travellers" ?
Good point on the preferences - yes they do carry across and the idea would be to use it elsewhere as needed also. So definitely a good idea to default to that in accommodation.
Yeah, share was the first word I thought of but it doesn't convey the right thing. Invite or Add Travellers is probably closer. Or "Plan with others" maybe?
Another question that just popped up in my mind - if you share with another TP member, does the trip become visible in their own travel planner? And if someone (perhaps the originator of the trip plan) drop out is the plan still available to the other people? (perhaps in the example of friends planning a trip together, but someone has to drop out but the trip continues anyway without that person).
I don't even know if there's a way to delete in the trip planner, as I only have past trips not any new upcoming ones.
When another person is added to the trip, it will show in their planner and map the same as it does on yours.
If they then hit "delete" on that trip it will only remove it from their map and not the original person's map.
If however the person who first created the removes it then it does remove it from all the maps. Not sure if that's acceptable or not, but it somehow seems logical to me that the owner can remove it entirely.
Deleting of entire trips is currently only possible through the map interface and not through the planner.
I should also add if any of the collaborators deletes/adds a stop or change any details, then that change will be reflected in everyone's map / plan.
I like "Plan with others" by the way!
Yeah, I think "Plan with Others" or "Plan with Friends" is probably the way to go - but it may be good to get some other input too!
Hi,
It looks interesting. A few questions / suggestions:
1. How do I add some notes? I would want to write stuff in each section for things to do, hotels etc.
2. With the adding of bookmarks, would a drag and drop of an open browser tab into the box be feasible?
3. I use a lot of screen clips (using a screen snipping tool) in my notes. Usually things like relevant portions of airline timetables and the like.
4. Do accommodation bookings from TP link in here?
5. The transport maps have the wrong airport showing for Bangkok BKK. It gives directions to the old Bangkok airport (Don Muang DMK).
6. The travel planner index page has listed 10 randomly selected trips since 1998 on it. How do I change the order they appear? Or remove them from the index page?
Cheers,
Glynn
Hi Glynn,
Thanks for giving it a whirl. Notes are probably the highest priority thing at the moment, so you can expect to see that quite soon. You're about the 3rd / 4th person to mention that specifically.
Drag and drop to the bookmarklet can't work unfortunately. Not quite sure how that speeds up just clicking on the bookmarklet in any case? Or am I misunderstanding what you want to achieve?
3. I use a lot of screen clips
Interesting re: screenclips. Pretty sure there's no way to manage that with the bookmarklet setup, but might be if we expanded to having fully integrated browser add-ons. Big disadvantage there is needing to develop them for each browser (FF, Safari, Chrome, IE). At one point we did briefly discuss the possibility of Dropbox integration. Could you imagine that working for this particular need? Ie, save image to Dropbox = it automatically shows in planner.
4. Do accommodation bookings from TP link in here?
Not just yet, but that's an obvious extension, as are other link-ins to logical content on TP. Don't want to go overboard on that though, because this is meant to be general purpose and the unique part of this planner is that it allows you to bookmark things from anywhere.
5. The transport maps have the wrong airport showing for Bangkok BKK. It gives directions to the old Bangkok airport (Don Muang DMK).
That's a Rome2Rio issue. I'll pass that on to them. They're quite good at fixing up issues like that so I'm sure they'll appreciate the heads up!
6. The travel planner index page has listed 10 randomly selected trips since 1998 on it. How do I change the order they appear? Or remove them from the index page?
This may seem random, but is in fact sorted. First by dates on the trip. So if you have a trip with future dates entered, then this will always show first. Secondly it's sorted by the time it was last edited. That's where it could seem quite random of course. On the cards is to improve this so that you can archive trips and pick which ones show there. Obviously this is an issue if you have a lot of trips - not so much if you're new to the site.
Thanks for the feedback. You can consider all your points elevated in importance now
Hi Peter,
Thanks for the reply. I will play with further and let you know.
The screen clippings are things that I find most useful. I currently use an Excel spreadsheet for this sort of stuff and it has clips all over the place, especially timetables, tour departure dates etc.
If you are looking at DropBox, then Google Docs could also be incorporated. I save all my flight, hotel confirmations etc with them so that I have a back up copy when I am on the road.
Regards,
Glynn
