Advice on travelling to Australia

Im an 18 year old female and living in Scotland and I'm planning my first trip to Australia for early next year on my own and a bit nervous! Does anyone have advice on the best places to start off/visit? Is anyone else going around the same time? Just need to get an idea of how much money to take, going to spend a year on a WHV travelling and working to keep some money behind me! Any advice is appreciated

The absolute minimum you need is AUD $5000, or about 3300 GBP. That's what's needed to be eligible for the WHV. However, more is definitely better, as you can expect to have spent that amount in 2 (max 3) months of travelling around Australia. Backpacker work is good for stretching your money, but generally doesn't really allow you to save up much.

Sydney and Melbourne are the major hubs which airlines fly into, and thus where most backpackers start, which means that the hostels there will be filled with people in a similar situation. They're also the most expensive cities in Australia, though, so unless you get work there, get out soon. Beyond that, for a route follow the coast clockwise or counter-clockwise, whichever you like, as long as it'll make you avoid the north during December through March, as that's the wet season there.

Thank you for your advice! I will be leaving the big cities once I meet people, think i will just go with the flow when im over there!
