Can anyone recommend a nice place to stay in Melbourne and Sydney? I don't mind if its a hostel or hotel, but somewhere where i can meet people and who would be interested in seeing the sights!
In Sydney, is always my favorite option. It's a YHA, so overall good quality (even if the bathrooms are not the nicest), but it's also located in the neighbourhood of Glebe, just outside the CBD, and with a very happening vibe, which carries through into the hostel. Quite a few long-stayers here the last time I visited, but also enough people coming through that you shouldn't have trouble meeting up with people to do things together with. Not nearly as massive as the big central hostels, either, which is a big plus for me.
In Melbourne the best few places to go and stay are Space Hotel (top of CBD, priced as a hostel) or Urban Central (Southbank) or Habitat (ST Kilda) depending on the area you would like to be in. Habitat probably the best hostel to meet people i would suggest though. But i believe Space hotel to be the best standard. Hope this helps some what

brilliant thank you, i will check these places out
Hey there,
I did a trip last year and have to say, I loved staying at boutique hotels!
In Melbourne there is the a great 'motel' called the Albany Motel. I met some great people there and ended up going out many nights with the people I met there.
When I did some research, I found that the motel was part of a collection of hotels - and in Sydney we found they have heaps of hotels too. I stayed at the Pensione Hotel which is bamb smack in the middle. They had this cool shared kitchen area where I met more people and we all ended up doing a trip to Brisbane together.
I hope this helps
