I'm planning to travel in SE Asia and am looking for hostels. There are 2 prices : 1 for price per person and 1 for price per room. I'm wondering if the price per room is the price for 2 persons?
The price is for the room, regardless of whether there are 1 or 2 people staying.
Some sites can at first divide by the occupancy of said room. But going further the total will come up. Most likely the cost of the room.
Hi piggg17..just to clarify . If you are looking at the section, then we always give the price for the whole room if the whole room is what you will need to pay for. So "price per room" is the price you pay whether you fill the room with max no. of people or just with one person (as bex said).
Other sites do show this differently but we found that people were frequently quite confused about it and so decided to show the *real* room price instead of the per-person price.

That depends on a few things
a) are you likely to get stressed out if you haven't already got somewhere organised
b) is there some event on in the town you're going to
c) are you happy risking it and wandering around looking at places
Different people like different things, so I wouldn't say either option is better. What I would say though is that in SE Asia you might find something cheaper just by wandering around. Because the margins are so low, the really cheap places may not advertise online.
When you arrive. 1) you may meet people on the way or there and if you're booked ahead you go separate ways and miss out. I like to keep my options open.
2) there will always be room somewhere ( or 99% of the time)
3) I find it helps to look at it before you pay, especially in Asia
Unless we're talking about the popular ones. The ones that are always filled and you wanna stay. Then yeah you gotta book. But that's only in a few of the SE "backpacker" destinations.
