awhitmer has indicated that this thread is about Thailand
the cost of living in thailand (especially if it's not bangkok) is quite low. if you are not very demanding you won't spend much. the cost of cheap accomodation is about100-150 USD per month.
Thanks for the quick reply!
Do you know much on the volunteering front? Is it hard to find some where to volunteer on a whim?
I have friends in Phnom Penh that can always use another volunteer. No fees involved. I don't know about Thailand. I do suggest you read and perhaps e-mail him your questions. He has been living in Tland for over 20 years. Good luck.
unfortunately, i don't know much about volunteering, but i think it's also possible to find something (especially in teaching, especially in small towns) with no charges. like teaching english to monks or something like this
@Vegasmike - Thanks for the info! I sent an email to stickman. Do you have more info about that orphanage? I will certainly look into splitting my time between both Thailand and Cambodia if it isn't too/expensive to do so. Or even immediately begin planning a return trip for the future if all of this works out.
@svetische - I am also of the same thoughts. I know one program we looked into cost something like 1,200 to help teach monks english, but I feel like if there are people willing to learn then all I should have to do is get there and like you said the cost of living is low and certainly something that would be pretty easy to handle between two people who are looking to live a very basic life for a couple months.
If anyone else out there is willing to throw down some information or answer some question let me know! Really appreciate all of the info and help I can get...really want to make this experience happen.
Adam,
I am sending you info on no fee volunteering in in a PM.
Hi, can I have some info as well.
Thanks for the info, Vegasmike! I'll certainly send them an email and see about possibly altering our plans and heading to Cam first.
