Hey!!
Have no fear about travelling alone (if you don't meet someone on this forum). I guarantee you'll meet people of your own age with similar interests and plans without even trying!
I can't tell you much about Australia but I would go to the North of New Zealand. Auckland is a great place to start and to meet new friends / travel partners. It has mixed reviews from travellers I know who've been there, but I love it, and it's also a good place to buy/hire a camper van.
If you're able to drive, then this is a cool way of seeing the country and gives you a lot more freedom. There are plenty of adverts pinned up in the hostels of backpackers who have finished their trip and are wanting to sell their van (possibly at a knock down price). There are also various garages and auctions that will sell or hire.
Alternatively, you could get the bus from town to town (Hop on hop off). Nakedbus.com was also popular wen I was there!
Have fun travelling!
Mike
Traveling alone in NZ is not a problem. Info centers are everywhere (I-Site) Great source of information and they will book accommodations for you. If you are still going to Christchurch. The Windsor B&B is the best. They are great folks. Don will give you a free tour of Christchurch.
Oh That's great Mike. I love the look of Auckland and if you say it's a great place to start off, i think i'll probably fly into there.
Unfortunately i can't drive, but maybe if i meet people we can sort something out, or if not i'll travel by coach around the island.
Thank you for all the great advice
And thank you 'hwade'. I'll take a look at I-Site
Charley
