The trains don't cover all of the US so you will be taking buses(which will take hours) or flying (expensive)

The last thing you want is to be stranded thousands of miles away from home with no money. You have to realistic, whatever people say about how cheap everything is when traveling unless you are eating out of bins(which you shouldn't do) is going to cost more money than you think.
On all of our trips we do lots of camping which is the cheapest type of accommodaton you can get and it still costs.

When I went travelling in September my ticket cost around £1,700 I think. So you would need to double that obviously and possibly add on a bit more for inflation. I wouldn’t think they would cost £7,000 in total, but I might be wrong.
I can’t comment on costs in USA as I never went, but I would budget at the very least £1,000 a month for Australia and New Zealand, and that is being extremely economical, so around £1,200 a month might be slightly more realistic. SE Asia is much cheaper, I was getting by on £600 a month there at the end of my travels when money was tighter.
I was lucky enough to get a good, well paid job in Sydney when I went to Australia, which allowed me to save a fair bit of money. But I think I was helped by the fact that I was 30 and had a decent CV with ten years experience, so could get a good job. Don’t bank on find lucrative work in Australia, as it might not happen.
Fiji is lovely, the Yasawa’s are idyllic, but fairly expensive, although I’d imagine two to three weeks there would be enough. I would advise you maximise your time in SE Asia and see more of Thailand, Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, Indonesia and Malaysia as you will spend far less money, and in my opinion get more out of it than travelling around Australia.
In summary I would say that £5k each, less £2k for a RTW ticket, so £3k, would last you around two months in Australia and New Zealand, and around 4 to 5 months in SE Asia. Obviously if you got a job that enabled you to save you could extend that.
