New Zealand and Fiji

Hellooo

New Zealand is two islands each about the size of England in area.

Many go to just south of the South Island for the scenery though Norway is just as good. I quite like the North Island and Rotorua amongst other places is worth a visit.

I rent a car when in NZ which makes getting around easy and even in high season I had no trouble finding B&B or Guest Houses.

Travelling between the islands you drop your car off one side, go across as a foot passenger, and pick up another the other side at no extra cost though dropping it off at a different place to where you picked it up can be expensive. Beware of radar traps.

Australia is expensive so I would not count on having to much left after a year there. Possibly miss out Fiji if funds are low.

I visited both countries on a trip a few years back—NZ in a motorhome with two friends and Fiji on my own.

We travelled the South Island from Wellington and finished at the airport in Auckland. Highly recommend taking in , a beautiful Art Deco town, and all the amazing wineries in the area. Can't remember the name of the company we used for the wine tour but there are quite a few to choose from. We were doing it on a budget but managed to go with an all day tour that included lunch and a chocolate factory! The Waitomo Caves are also amazing but we just saw the glowworms not the all-out black water rafting extravaganza. There are combo tickets which are a bit cheaper but still stretch a traveller budget IMO.

I recommend the Mamanuca and Yasawa Islands of Fiji. I booked a package with Awesome Adventures that included accommodation, meals, island transfers, etc but you can book individual activities or island dorms too. Staying on South Sea Island is one of my favourite travel experiences—it is so incredible!

Good luck with the plannning!

Duh. We obviously travelled the North Island of NZ...

There's a lot of places that you can go to New Zealand. If you are looking for an adventure, then you can go to the beautiful beach of Abel Tasman National Park, experience the Polynesian Spa, Fox Glacier, Bay of Islands and many more.

-snip-

As Cyberia says, Australia is very expensive! When I went there on my working visa I was lucky enough to find a job where I could save around $600 a month, however I was 29 and had quite a bit of experience in my field. Don’t count on saving too much!

I love New Zealand. Depends how long you have, but highlights for me would be:

• Getting out into the suburbs in Auckland
• White water rafting near Rotorua
• Doing the Tongariro Crossing
• Going to Abel Tasman National Park
• Wanaka
• Queenstown
• Cycling round the wineries in Renwick

Fiji is beautiful. I only went to the Yasawa’s and they were very much tropical island paradises.
