America in 1 month

Hi, I've recently been made redundant and so am taking the opportunity to travel America for a month.

If I had £10k to spend on a holiday, I would spend the winter months in Asia, November to March.

America is expensive and it will soon eat into your money, particularly if you go to Vegas.

Much of Asia is cheap. I had a nice apartment in Bangkok last winter for £230 a month and I travelled around in Thailand and to other countries from there.

December and January, you could be sunning yourself on a beach somewhere. Lots and lots of British people about in Asia that time of year.

Whatever you choose, do be careful of your money. Maybe take pre-payment cards?

Thanks but this is a trip I've always wanted to do so I think it's worth the money, also I've been on holiday to Vegas a few times and not sent too much. I don't plan on spending a lot of time there would just like to spend a couple of days topping off a great trip!

I've also been to China and yes I had a great time but I've done it now, and I've never really been that fussed about Thailand.

Lucy,
Since you have been to Vegas before, you know where to stay, what to see, etc. Contact me via PM before you get here and I will try to make your Vegas experience better. Free shows, perhaps drive you to sights that need a car. Mike

Sorry, but I have to agree with Cyberia about my own country. SE Asia is far nicer and certainly much friendlier. Do you really want to see the homeless and unemployed walking the streets of the USA?

But you haven't been to Vietnam - friendliest country in my opinion!

you have to drive the PCH either from LA up to SF or vice versa. - I am from the UK and have lived here 20 years and it still blows me away. Big Sur and Santa Cruz - beautiful.

Nashville Memphis and all sound fab too.

Have a great trip! America is not as expensive as the UK that's for sure.

The colors in New England in late October are gorgeous, but it will start getting cold at that time, so heading south and west is the best choices after spending just a few days in the NE area. The winery harvest festivals are still in full force, and everybody's tailgating at football games right up through the first week of December.

As far as whether to do a tour or go on your own, I'd go on my own--since you have already been here once and have a great idea of where to go. Strangely enough, the weather in southern California will stay great all the way through New Years Day, and December is actually about the single best month to visit Texas since the hot, dry summer months will finally end.

Enjoy your trip.
