There are plenty of buses plying between Genting & KL and as you said the skywalk as well. It'll ease your uncertainty if you prebook it. Also, pls find out if the Skywalk is working or not, last time I heard it was under maintenance.
I have been travelling in Malaysia since years taking all kinds of buses & coaches, never had any problems regarding recklessness.
To go back to S'pore, best would be to take the night train, sleeper class. Prebook it if you are going in a festive season. On my last journey to S'pore from KL, the train was full and I couldn't get a seat in any of the buses also... I had to fly!
If you are looking for a single room, it'll cost you no less than RM 85.... may go upto RM120
There's a Backpacker Inn in Chinatown which is quite inexpensive (around RM40-50). I stayed there for 3 nights. Clean room & bed with a small balcony and shared shower. Only negative pt, the room was on 3rd floor.

Yes I will be taking the night train back to Singapore. Was checking on availability last night, seems to have a healthy number of seats left, probably because I am planning a weekday trip figure that a second class sleeper berth will be good enough?
Flying is one of my options, however I am interested in the experience of being in a sleeper train! Plus, it it is slightly cheaper even with the airfare promotions by budget flights.
Aww im game to walk for miles, but stairs are my nemesis. I am considering Sunshine Bedz KL that is in the area of Bukit Bintang. Any comments on that though? Location seems fine and hostel seems safe
