With just 11 days, I'd stick to a single island. Two possible worthwhile loops to do could be: (my favorite) Christchurch, Greymouth, the glaciers, Wanaka, Queenstown (daytrip to Milford Sound), Mt. Cook, Lake Tekapo, Christchurch (flying in and out of Queenstown is also an option there). Or Auckland, Whitianga, Hobbiton, Rotorua, Gisborne, Napier, Taupo, Whakapapa/National Park, Waitomo, Auckland. Both are more rushed than ideal, but at least doable in such a short time.
