I hope you could give me some advice as I'm planning to travel solo to Mexico, Cuba, Costa Rica, Peru and Brazil in December. But I'm a bit afraid to go to Mexico as I heard a lot of bad stories about Mexico.
Before give you the suggestion, I wonder, are you sure to be go to Maxico alone? Its not safe for go alone. I was also heard about environment of Mexico. If you want to go there, you should arrange some one along with you. That's the good thing, your plan will make comfortable and safe.

Mexico CAN be very dangerous. But I don't think it's accurate to say as a whole, it should be avoided. It's a huge country of over 100 million people and very large in size as well. So I would say it depends on where you go. Most the bad stuff is happening in the North (because of the Drugs) and the Capital, both I would certainly avoid. I think you could manage a nice trip, alone, in Guadalajara and/or Puebla without incident. They are both quite cool cities.
I have spent time in some of the most dangerous places in the most dangerous countries in the World and I can tell you, girl, that it's really on you how safe things can be. If your inexperienced, then I would really avoid ANY 3rd world countries. If you have a good head on your shoulders, know how to keep a look out.. trust no one (EVER), don't let any get near you on the street with out you knowing it, literally, keep your head on a swivel all the time... etc. You will probably be okay.
Having said... I would never let my sisters travel in ANY Latin Country alone. But that's not saying that it can not be done safely. Do you speak any Spanish?
Costa Rica is pretty cool and much safer. Make sure you get to a little town called Monte Verde, it's got tons of really cool stuff to see and do. There's a great cafe down town built into this huge tree, very cool. Hummingbird gardens, zip lines, wildlife preserves and tons more. A bit off the beaten path but worth the trip. Usually I am not one of the touristy kind of stuff, but it was mega cool.
Brazil is amazing. VERY expensive but totally different than the rest of South America. Rio is really a cool city, dangerous but cool. There is a "Favela" right near Copacabana... I don't remember the name but it's kind of a tourist attraction, Michael Jackson filmed a video there, I guess. There's a little metro car (free!) to the top with a really killer view, very, very fun. Brazil is HUGE! and very diverse. I'm sure you could spend lots of time there and see new things all the time. I have been told the beaches an hour outside of São are the 'hidden gem' of the Brazils beaches and much cleaner and nice than other spots. Do you speak any Portuguese?

I know a little of spanish, I will stay with my travel friend in Mexico that I met in spain maybe. He invited me to stay with him. Hopefully there will be no problem. I hear cuba is pretty cool. Im leaving to morocco tomorrow. Cheers everyone. Thanks for your advice

I have family in Mexico, and things are pretty bad there. However, like people have said, it depends on where you go. If you know a local that will tell you the safe places to go, then you should be okay.
I would avoid states like Sinaloa, Guerrero, Michoacan (since even tourist areas have had gun violence). I have family in Guerrero, and it's definitely not a safe place to visit.
I've been to Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco. It's a quiet tourist beach area, but generally safe….and the food is delicious!
anneramly, Cuba is a very easy country. Its danger is being so safe that you're lulled into a false sense of security and you allow your common sense and street smarts to deteriorate.

I know of a couple of other young ladies who have been (and 1 still is) travelling through Central and South America on their own. They carefully planned their itineraries, were careful to stay at places and in areas on the beaten track, could converse fairly well in Spanish. I must add that they had already a previous, extensive travel experience (India, Africa).
Peru is pretty safe...just be careful at night as can be said for most countries. If staying in Lima, stay in Miraflores, it is super safe!
