Hey! I really want to got travelling but not even sure how to start planning! I think I'd be going on my own but would like to meet a group of travelers in the same boat! I'd love to go to India, Vietnam, Thailand, New Zealand and Australia.
Anyone got any tips on the first thing to do?
Research, research, research! Think about the things you care about, or the things you'd like to find and google them!
Buy yourself a giant map, and as you find places that interest you, plot them.. And when you've got a pile, look at how you could tie them up, and think about where you'll learn and experience the most.
Then.. Look into visas! All of the information you need is available to you on the net, and through forums, and nothing is that scary when so many people have so much advise and experience to share.
Good luck (:
Great advice Andrew!
Laura, you might like to use the TP planner bookmarklet to start saving the info you do find online. Check it out here: .
It'll make a map for you of each destination (or stop) that you add and then you can plan your route or remove destinations that will add additional or costly air travel.
Also, check for some ideas on places and best times to go.
Good luck with your planning.
And welcome to Travellerspoint!

The first thing you will need is lots and lots of money.
Then as said, research on exactly where you want to go and what you want to see and do. Ask some direct questions here.
Then book yourself a Round The World (RTW) ticket* (you can visit some destinations in Asia on the way out and some on the way back). As to best time to go, check on the weather at these destinations.
- Best done over the telephone as some travel companies use travellers for staff and they can advise you of what is best suited to you.
Hi,
I know I am banging on about cruises but they are a great way to get to know whether you want to go back or not.
All the planning is done for you. It's about as safe a way to travel as it gets, especially for single ladies. You meet people or not. Travel off the ship in groups.
I know you will hear some horror stories but IMHO they are safe.
It can be expensive but not all the time.
I travel solo & the single supplement is a killer but they are also reduced or eliminated sometimes.
I just returned from a 7 day cruise from Texas to Belize, Honduras & Cozumel.
It was advertised at 509.00 USD & total for me came to 583.00. Still expensive but any hotel with 3 great meals a day for under 100 dollars a day cannot be bad. Includes your room & entertainment.
Itineraries all over the planet. If you like, check my blog to see some of the great places I have been on a boat.

Hi,
At first choose your place and start to research about this place . Then make a list and always keep mind the weather climate conditions . Then take your suitable clothes , medication , currency etc . Always take affordable language for trip and tell your family and friend about your leaving . Always keep your passport , visa , citizenship proof and similar related item for your safety proof. Check your camera, battery etc and set your vacation mail notice .

Hi - as a start, nip out to your local travel agent and get some brochures on the places you think you want to go to. Look at the pictures and the maps and read the text and make a list of the places you might want to visit. If you want to tour, look at the suggested itineraries and maps (ignore the prices, they'll be astronomical). Then go on the internet and research airline prices (try the budget airlines too which might not come up if you just look at Flight Centre or something like that). Then ask travellers on travel forums - here, trip advisor, thorn tree travel. And as the first replier said - research, research, research. It's a long process but if you do it properly, it really is worthwhile.
