Is the Colombian Peso a closed currency or am I able to purchase this outside of Colombia? One travel money place here had told me it's closed so I can't buy it here in the UK; other places just don't say they don't have it in stock. I can't find anything definitive online.
It's not closed, lots of exchange houses carry it but you'd be nuts to buy it in advance because the rate will be horrible. Wait until you arrive and hit an ATM, no big deal.

There's ATMs everywhere, including the airports. It's easy.
One thing not to do... bring cash. You'll get a much better exchange rate through the ATMs.

Yeah, don't bring cash. Banks will give you good exchange rate. If you are going to use a credit card. Use Capital One.
Obviously, be extremely careful taking money out and who's watching you. Make sure it's a good area and no one trails you... I know, common sense. But especially important in Colombia.
