Planning my Trip

Hi everybody.
I am planning to go travelling in July. I am going alone. I have tried to start planning my trip and I don't really want to plan too much, however I don't know where to start!! I get really overwhelmed! I would welcome help.

I am planning on going from London to Northern Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam, possibly Australia, Indonesia, Thailand South and possibly India, then Home I don't really intend on working, apart from voluntary work.

If you get a RTW ticket, you need to keep travelling in one direction there and back. Try phoning some of the numbers in the travel section of the Saturday Daily Mail or The Mail on Sunday. The people are often quite knowledgeable and can give you some good advice.

Single fares tend to be expensive, sometimes nearly as much as return fares.

Book Australia with a stopover in Bangkok on the way out and India on the way back. From Bangkok you can book trips to elsewhere in Asia as side trips. Lots of travel agents who will help you, notably on KSR. AirAsia is OK if you think of it as an Asian version of Ryanair.

If you do want to do Indonesia, you can have a second stopover somewhere like Bali.

If there is even the slightest chance you will work in Australia, you MUST have a work visa. People who even might work illegally are often put on the next plane home. (ie: they do not have enough funds for their stay).

You will need visas. India. Thai you are allowed 30 days visa waiver (upto 90 days in 180 days if you go out and come back), Vietnam, then Cambodia you can get at the border, and Australia.

Note. Visas must be used within a certain time so some you may have to pick up on your journey.

Do consider travel insurance. There are some cheap companies which will give you a year insurance, and peace of mind if worse should come to worse.

Take some passport sized photos, and a photocopy of the info page of your passport in case it gets lost. The passport itself should always be carried on you. You must still have 6 months left on your passport by time you leave most of these countries.

One extra point. July till even early November can be VERY wet in Asia. That is why the fares are cheap then. Best time to leave is December and you can be on a sunny beach every day then when they are all freezing back home.

HIYA,

this was exactly how I was last September, absolutely panicknig and didnt have a clue where to start and what to do.

I am currently travellnig through Asia as we speak and having the time of my life.

Myanmar (Burma) is one the great touring countries. Pagan, Inle Lake, Mandalay, Pyin oo Lwin, Mawlamyine, Mrauk-U, Schwedagon, Ngapali.
Great people, good food, beautiful scenery, ancient culture, super-safe to travel, beaches
