Hello everyone; I'm Ali (male).. I'm looking to start my 1 year visa in Aug/sept on my own but my mate may be joining me which he will confirm in the next few days.
Ali,
Do you mean a one year visa for Australia or just a general one year sabbatical/gap year?
Whichever order you choose, I would maximise your time in Aus/NZ as you will only get that WHV once in your life. It would be a shame to only spend four months in either country.
Consider also that for NZ (hazarding a guess that you hold a British passport) you can select 23 months at application.
Hello thanks for your reply,
A 1 year visa for Australia and yes I do hold a British passport. How do you mean regarding selecting 23 months for NZ on application?
Would you reccomend spending 10/11 months in Aus/NZ and then the remainder in Asia? Would you do Asia first or on the return to the UK?
Thanks
Dale
A working holiday visa for Australia only allows you to work in Australia, not in New Zealand. A working holiday visa for New Zealand only allows you to work in New Zealand, not in Australia. Both are "once in a lifetime", so staying in each country for only four months seems a bit of a waste of the visa.
(For Australia you can get a second WHV if you do three months of "specified work" (fruit-picking e.a.) while on the first WHV; for New Zealand, as a UK-resident only, you can opt to get a visa valid for 23 months rather than 12 months.)
Probably the most important question: Why limit the total length of the trip to 12 months? Why not do the full 12 months Australia, and a couple of months of New Zealand and Asia? (Or 12-23 months New Zealand, and a couple of months of Australia and Asia.)
