I will be in Wellington on 13/14 and 15 February and have managed to get accommodation with YHA on 13th but they are fully booked for 14th and 15th. Everywhere elsewith backpackers rates seems to be booked out on 14th/15th. I can't even find reasonable priced B&Bs for those nights. Does anyone have any ideas please? I am prepared to go outside the city itself but do need to be able to catch the 9am ferry to Picton on 16th.

Maybe Wellingtonians hit the local backpackers for their Valentine's Day dates!
New Zealand are playing a cricket test match v India in Wellington on 14-18 February 2014; the cricket fans have probably booked the accommodation already. [Sorry, this may not help the OP but it probably explains the situation.]
Thanks for your responses Kellie, Borisborough and adalinaabella, I finally managed to get a single room at Downtown Backpackers through Booking.com. It is more than they normally charge (and a lot more than a dorm bed) but at least I wont have to sleep at the ferry trminal ?
