Hi All,
If you get a RTW ticket, you need to keep travelling in one direction there and back. Try phoning some of the numbers in the travel section of the Saturday Daily Mail or The Mail on Sunday. The people are often quite knowledgeable and can give you some good advice. For December, book about June or later. But not too late.
So, London, Delhi, Bangkok. Then you can do side trips to Cambodia and Vietnam. Back to Bangkok and then Beijing. Then Borneo, Bali, Sydney, Auckland.
Remember, you can instead do some of these trips on the way back home.
As you have noted, Australia and NZ are expensive and they will eat into your funds, getting there and staying there.
The Asia parts of your holiday can be very cheap depending on what kind of lifestyle you want. There is an Accommodation link at the top of the page which will give you some idea of what to expect, but December to April is high season in Asia and the cheap places can fill up and you end up paying more.
If there is even the slightest chance you will work in Australia, you MUST have a work visa. People who even might work illegally are often put on the next plane home. (ie: they do not have enough funds for their stay).
You will need visas. India. Thai you are allowed 30 days visa waiver (upto 90 days in 180 days if you go out and come back), Vietnam, then Cambodia you can get at the border, China and Australia.
I went to Borneo many years ago and not a lot there. I have been to Bali a number of times and maybe I'm jaded but not a lot there either.
Do consider travel insurance. There are some cheap companies which will give you a year insurance, and peace of mind if worse should come to worse.
Take some passport sized photos, and a photocopy of the info page of your passport in case it gets lost. The passport itself should always be carried on you. You must still have 6 months left on your passport by time you leave most of these countries.
Thanks for your reply Cyberia!
Really helpful information! I will definately be getting travel insurance and a working holiday visa for Australia too. Do you think that my budget is feasible for my itinerary? And I will be staying in low budget/hostel accomodation?
Many Thanks

It is a bit on the low side but I would say do not spend much time Down Under since that is where the big bills are.
The travelfish site is helpful on parts of Asia.
Note. Visas must be used within a certain time so some you may have to pick up on your journey.
It is impossible to do this trip with the funds you have, unless you fancy eating out of bins and living out in the open.
I can never understand why people want to do a once in a lifetime trip on insufficient funds.
Wait and save so that you can enjoy the trip and not have to keep counting the pennies every day.
