Im going Oz for a year leave in september don't know what size to go for a 60L? or a 80L? to get one with attachable 15L with it?
If anyone could help on brands aswell i will be buying it second hand in good condition because they are over priced products!
any help would be nice
You can buy just about everything you need in Australia, at comparable prices to the UK, so don't take too much with you.
Caribee 70L is what I carry.

This is a party political broadcast on behalf of the 35L crowd. Don't grow to hate your luggage, travel light. The longer you're going for, the less you want to lug. :-)
I'm also interested in this. I have a 35l one, but was thinking of buying a bigger size. I doubt that my 35 litre will be allowed in free hand luggage - especially if I have to add a sleeping bag and tent to it at some stage. Besides, the attachments on this one don't seem so great - I prefer ones with the straps/handles underneath the bag so you can strap a tent to the bottom on the outside of your bag.
Once it's on your back - as a fairly strong guy I don't really feel much difference between an extra 10-20kg weight.
Depending on how large and strong you are, I would say this determines your choice. I personally think most men can handle an 80L pack, especially if it is one that has wheels like the Osprey Meridian 28" Rolling Duffel and Backpack. The Eagle Creek DoubleBack 26 Wheeled Backpack is a similar one I'd recommend, albeit smaller (57L). The Caribee Skymaster 80 is also a good choice, you will find a lot of this brand in Australia. They have lots of sizes that will definitely suit most travelers.
These packs have detachable daypacks so you don't need to buy a separate one.
I would think that on eBay you can find second hand for well known brands - just don't buy those brands whose warranties are shorter than the usual five years or lifetime. The brands I mentioned earlier cost over $300 brand new but their warranties are fantastic so maybe you can get a good deal buying second hand ones.
I took a 55l bag for a 6 month trip to South America, SE Asia and Oz. It was more than big enough and never had anything strapped to the outside. (Although also never camped). Initially I used to detachable day sack, but seeing as the day bag has all your valuables in, you can't leave that on the back out of sight as you walk and also They tend to be quite heavy so leave you off balance, so I bought a normal backpack. Also the quality of these detachable day packs is often not great, and so they are not particularly comfortable to carry on day trips, giving you back ache. I was definitely much better off once I bought a normal backpack and wore it on the front, which balanced me out quite nicely.
