I'm currently living in Thailand and plan to go to Cambodia and Bali in about a month. Rabies isn't necessary unless you enjoy teasing the dogs and are walking around alone at night (even if you do happen to get bite by a dog or a monkey the hospitals will take care of everything rabies related). I have no idea about Japanese Encephalitis (i did not get that particular shot because i thought it wasn't necessary and these shots tend to be pricey). as for cholera as long as you are careful not to drink the tap water and when you are eating street food ALWAYS watch it being cooked, don't take something that has just been sitting there. I would bring medicine from home with you when you go on your trip (I'm not sure where you are from but a lot of diarrhea and sickness medicine you can buy over the counter). also if you are planning to stay around populated areas and not go trekking through the jungle on your own you should fairly safe. Granted you will most likely get sick the few first days being in whatever country you plan to visit first, that is just because everything is new to your body, give yourself a few days to get adjusted to the food, climate and such.

I've been to Thailand several times and haven't had the cholera vaccine and I've never met any travellers who have had it. As far as I know it's not a risk in Thailand. Cholera is mainly transmitted through drinking contaminated local water supplies which I doubt you would be doing out there anyway.

I get the Cholera shots. I have managed care (for now) that pays for it. I also get the JEV shots too. The shots are good for years. Even my Yellow Fever is up to date in case I end up in South America or Africa; good for 10 years. Cholera has come up in Thailand from time to time in the past. I get the Typhoid shot too.
Better safe than sorry!
Check with your doctor and see if Doxycycline can be used for Malaria. Very cheap when you buy it in Thailand.
