Hey ! Hi
I am planning to travel to Thaliand and its my first time going there and im so excited.I have some friends who maybe will travel with me but im afraid they will not because of their work.
I am looking for adventure and maybe i will stay 2 weeks there.I am thinking to travel at end of may 20 or 21 .
Tourists visit Thailand every month of the year. Thailand is bigger than the UK so there is quite a lot to see. You might benefit from a travel guide on Thailand. They usually give you some background history, an idea of things to "see and do" plus sometimes even how to get from one city to another. A simple Google search will also give you some fast information on transportation choices between cities.
Thailand does have some good transportation; long distance buses, discount airlines and sometimes even rail service. You can even take a train from Chiang Mai, through Bangkok, to the bottom of Thailand, through Malaysia and end at Singapore!
Normal things that some visitors do is Bangkok, visit to Northern Thailand (often Chiang Mai area,) and a beach area. I always advise visitors to spend the last night or two back in Bangkok again. Do some of the "big item" shopping so you don't have to carry some piece of tourist junk everywhere you go for 25 days or so. Bangkok is cheaper than many beach areas, especially Phuket. Local city transportation is well organized, meter taxis are cheap (when you pay the meter fare,) and there is a city rail system too. (Skytrain, subway and Airport Rail Link.) Bangkok has 2 airports, most overseas flights from UK, US, Europe land at Suvarnabhumi. If you intend to fly out of Thailand immediately - know from which airport and allow sufficient transfer time.
With a UK passport you can enter free for 30 days with a Visa Exemption. More than 30 days you may need a tourist visa you pay for. From my country, using full service airlines, usually round trip is cheaper than 2 one way flights.
May or June. All of Thailand has warm weather not just beach areas. In these 2 months you will have a little more heat and rain depending on where you are. Most of the time the rain stops in a few hours. When it is hot you drink more fluids, maybe walk in the shade and every now and then go into an air conditioned mall, store or bar, etc.
You will have to set up a budget to know how much you can spend each day for hotel, entertainment, etc. When you can ask for hotel suggestions also include a price range in Thai baht and where you need a hotel. Bangkok is a big city, young tourists often choose Khao San Road area, other tourists choose different areas like Sukhumvit Nana/Asoke areas to use cheap rail service.
Change your money over to Thai baht in Thailand for a better rate. No problem 24 hours a day at the airport to change some money. Many of the bank money changers open every day in major cities.
Keep up with the protest situation going on right now. I would expect things to be better by April but who knows for sure.
Good luck.
Check out some of the awesome home stays you can do in Thailand on this site I've used this site a number of times and had some great experiences and made long time friends.
Good luck and have fun.
