Hi all!
When you are in Sydney, consider a night camping overnight at the Taronga Zoo.
A bit pricey & needs two people but it Sounds like an unusual thing to do.

Re: hidden gems I would say check out Adelaide.
It was recently named in Lonely Planet's top 10 cities for 2014 and that is where you can go shark cage diving. My partner is dying to do this after hearing another traveller talk it up.
Hidden gems in Melbourne, especially bars, is a long list! Walk the laneways and look for rooftop bars (and cinemas). If you're a coffee drinker, fight the crowds and check out Brother Baba Budan. Seek out Captains of Industry for a great lunch and people watching over Elizabeth Street. There's more cool places . TP HQ's favourite for a good cheap meal is Om Vegetarian on Elizabeth Street (better than the Collins Street one) – $6.50 all you can eat and it's open until 9pm everyday
For most other places you travel to: walk away from the tourist hot spots, even the next block over and you will find some hidden treats.
It depends what you find fun, having a picnic on Observatory Hill (near the Rocks - a place on Sydney Harbour) in Sydney is nice it has great views overlooking the harbour bridge (get some pizza from zia pizzeria at the rocks) with a good bottle of wine......, Harry's cafe de wheels at Woolloomooloo is on the harbour - great Aussie pie and peas and hot dogs..... It's fun with nice views (take away only) Sydney has great little places to see, lots of cafe's restaurants. Of course a walk around Sydney Harbour has great views of the Opera House and Harbour Bridge and is a must. You could catch a ferry to luna park (a carnival type fun park) or the beach town of Manly. Finish of with an icecream from gelatissimo at Circular Quay (where the ferry's come in). March/April is still quite nice and sunny. Some chill in the air but we can still get some really nice weather. Last April we were still heading to the beach for swimming it was beautiful! Hyde park or the Sydney botanic gardens is pretty also.
Just to add from my last post, if I was to suggest one place in Australia it would be Heron Island. It is a small island on the Great Barrier Reef where you can walk out to see the reef and at high tide snorkel. It is absolutely gorgeous. No big night life and water sports, but it is a great relaxing break, cocktails while watching the sunset.....a truly magical place, you get there from Gladstone in QLD - it isn't budget accommodation, but isn't exclusive prices either..... It is worth a visit.
Book a to the Sydney observatory & have a look through their large telescope - Magical.
Get the Sydney bus pass that also gets you on all the ferries around the harbour - a great way to see Sydney
and
Looks like they can be used get out to and around the Blue Mountains.
The circular walk from Manly Ferry to Manly beach, passed Shelley beach, up over the hill, out to the point and back to the ferry is a great way to spend a few hours.

Hi! I am currently in Melbourne and will be leaving here to travel east coast in May. Are you here in Melbourne now? Let me know would be good to meet another English and see some sites, I know a few places! Also really want to do great ocean road and was hoping to hire a campervan with a group as so much better value than a day trip and can see much more and take longer! Let me know, I am in Richmond at the moment.
