Hey buddy,

China is a phenomenal destination. The best way is to start in BeiJing around August/September and work south, some highlights are Great Wall, Forbidden city, Terracotta army in Xian, Panda's in Chengdu, ShangHai's bund promenade and Hong Kong and Macau.

You will pay more than the locals for stuff (white tax), but its still pretty cheap, the local food is better than any chinese restaurant at home, street food is everywhere and delicious.

Enjoy your research, i thoroughly recommend China as a destination.

its been a while since i was in China. but it was cheap and the food was great. i would definitely visit Beijing , climb the Great Wall and see the Terracotta Army. i wasn't too impressed with X'ian though, and a definate visit to Hong Kong. i was there in June July and found it very hot but did rain a quite a bit, but it made the trip better as some of the tourist sites like the Forbidden City were quite.

Thanks wizzmor and deniz for ur suggestions about the best season of china travel.

I've spent ten days in Beijing in September/October and ten days in April - both times the weather was ideal. This year it's Beijing, Xian, Chengdu and Shanghai in July - we'll take a chance on the weather!

Hi there
We went to China in April 2012. It was getting hot then but still good weather. The great wall is a must and the Forbidden City simply for the history. I really enjoyed X'ian. Went to a local art gallery and bought some very cool artwork by young artists in the area. If you do go to X'ian, go to the mosque and the muslim community surrounding it. It's a cool part of town. The terra cotta soldiers are a no brainer. Shanghai and Hong Kong. The south is very different from the north. I can't wait to go back. We didn't get to spend enough time there.

I think April and October are the most reliable months to travel around China. The humidity in summer in Shanghai / Beijing / xian is heavy duty if you are not used to it.

Picking the places to visit is tricky, and there is so much to see, but it is a fantastic country to travel in, and if you need ideas for what to visit in different areas, just say, and I can help with an itinerary / plan.

I am a big fan of Yangshuo / Guilin, such natural beauty and so much to do and see. I also loved the Yunnan province, as well as visiting all the traditional sights (Wall, Warriors, Pandas, etc).

Yes, absolutely. Hire a bike and cycle in the area around Yangshuo, the scenery is breath taking, there is also some fantastic rock climbing there too if that floats your boat.

The truth is you could spend a year in China and do something new eveyday, i usedup everyday of my 3 month visa and still feel i only scratch the surface.

there is not doubt, summer is the best with a lot of spots for tour. if you love skin, you can go winter, if you like flowers, you can go spring, that depends on your interesting and destination

September & October is the best season to visit China; no smoke, no hot weather, but beautiful scenery around
