This is one of the advantages of - they allow you to renew your policy on the road (or take it out once you've already left). So you could take out one policy for the US part of your trip and then a second one for the Germany part.
I'm not sure if there are other insurance companies with this kind of policy. Probably, but WN is the first one I ever knew to allow this.
