Hi,
My Passport expires in April 2015. I'm set to begin my travels this October, I'm tempted to extend my current passport whilst I'm abroad, instead of renewing it now. (I'm running out of time, so need to make a decision this week.)
I'll be renewing it in Dec, whilst in Thailand. Is there any countries that do not accept extended passports? I'm presuming it's all electronic and my current passport stays as is.
I'll be travelling on an extended passport to:
Vietnam, Australia, New Zealand, Ecuador, Argentina , Bolivia , Brazil , Chile , Ecuador , Peru , Uruguay, Costa Rica, Panama, Potentially USA after that (Or back to SEA.
Cheers!
You can get extensions to a British passport? I've not heard of that. Just googled it and looks like an emergency facility for those living overseas and done via the embassy - can't see how it would be done electronically, they're going to have to make you a new passport.
Simpler to renew early. You can renew anytime and get up to 6 months additional validity credited to the new one for unexpired time on the old one.
Given that so many places ask for 6 months validity remaining, and you can have all but a couple of months credited, why would you not want a nice simple new 10 year passport to begin your travels?

Ditto Andy. Get a new Passport before you leave. This is a no brainer.
Have fun.
Cheers,
Terry
