Hey!
I'm new to this too... I'm travelling to Melbourne from Dubai (after 2 night stopover) and land 25th October 2014- also very excited but VERY nervous as I am also doing it solo.
I will be checking into Base Hostel- St Kilda for 7 nights, then looking to hopefully find some work perhaps in/ around Melbourne too and would like to head up east coast to Sydney- maybe in a campervan in time for xmas/ New year- sounds like we have similar plans just 4 weeks apart- soo if you're still in Melbourne in October would be great to meet up if you like you'll probably have lots of tips by then!

Aw wow! We really do have similar plans. Well hopefully I am still in the area but my saving hasn't been going too well and so I will need to find work asap. haha!
Travelling up the east coast by campervan... Bliss!
Im sure youl be fine. From what I have heard travelling solo is the best way to meet people

No not really. Possibly bar work.. We'll see What did you have in mind? Have you booked anything for Xmas/new year? Apparently it's getting pretty full everywhere.
Hey,
Ill be arriving the end of September, having organised any digs yet but ill be looking at hostels closer the date. I hope to knock about St Kilda and find a steady job until im ready to move on elsewhere after a while.
Ive heard Christmas in Oz can be extremely expensive, so im thinking about heading to Thailand of Bali for it.
Will eventually be heading up the east coast to Byron Bay after dropping in on some family in Brisbane. Great to hear other people out there around the same time.
New Years in Sydney is really expensive (just way too much demand, so hostels can get away with asking ridiculous prices; also the reason to book way ahead if you really want to be there) - the rest of the country isn't more expensive than usual / during the rest of high season.
I've just got a rough idea of what I'd like to do n where I would like to be n when. If it doesn't go to plan then heyho I'm excited but so nervous. Any tips on finding work?
Hey dan. I have booked into base hostel st kilda. Il be staying there for 6 nights. Hoping to find work ASAP as funds are low. When do u arrive in Melbourne? It's nice knowing people are around the same area

Sian,
That's the sort of thing I have in mind possibly some fruit picking at some point so that I could be eligible for my 2nd year visa if needed....
No that's what I'm a bit worried about haven't booked anything for Xmas/ new year keep reading everywhere is getting full and that prices are hiked up loads....!?
Someone mentioned they are booked into the backpacker base hostel and someone else mentioned they would be interested in a beach hut and splitting price in a group...
