10 weeks in Northern India & South East Asia itinerary help?

Hi

Hi - it depends on what pace you want to set and how long you take to explore each of the sights in the cities. Personally, 4 days in Delhi would be too much for me. We spent two nights in Jaipur, two nights in Agra and three nights in Varanasi and that was plenty in each of those three cities. Equally, unless you want to shop till you drop, five days in Bangkok might be overdoing it, and for the Angkor complex, five days in Siem Reap might be too long too. You have probably got Phnom Penh right and HCMC right too - there's a fair amount to see there.

In the time you save you could add Jodhpur and Udaipur in Rajasthan and possibly even visit the odd place in Laos too.

But it's all a matter of personal preference - have a look at the lonely planet guides and read some of the travel blogs here and then work out how long you want to stay in each place from what others have done.

Sounds like an epic trip - enjoy!

While I'm normally the kind of traveler who likes to spend a good deal of time in one place (usually longer than people recommend), these aren't the cities that I would do it in.

Delhi - It does have lots to offer, but 2 or 3 full days of sightseeing is enough. You'll want a day to just kind of wander and absorb that fact you are in India. You'll want to spend a day seeing Old Delhi -- Jama Masjid, the fort etc, and don't miss Humayan's Tomb. Then get out of there - there's more to see elsewhere.

Jaipur - 2 full days max. A few sights - Hawa Mahal, Jantar Mantar, some markets - check the box, done, move on.

Now you have a few days to play with, I would add somewhere more pleasant, like Udaipur and/or Bundi.

Varanasi and Kolkatta are both good though I would spend more time in Varanasi and a day less in Kolkatta.

5 days in Bangkok is too much - I love the city, but 2 or 3 days is enough for one trip. Consider spending a day each in Ayathaya and Kanchanaburi.
The islands - well, I've spent several weeks at a time of most of these (except Samui - hated it, got out as fast as I could), so 5 or 6 days is barely quick visit, or it could be way too long, depending on if the island suits your style. Good news - it's pretty easy to move on to another if you don't like it.
It's been a while since I've been to Seam Reap and I know it's changed a lot, but I can't imagine you'll need 5 days. 3 is good for the ruins of Angkor and there are probably more interesting places to spend the extra couple days.
HCMC - like most cities, a couple days sightseeing maybe all you need. But maybe while you are there, spend sometime doing a trip to the Mekong Delta.

I think you must visit Kerala and Kashmir too.
