I'll just make one comment... I don't think SE Asia (or for that matter, anywhere) is the place to ride two-up on a scooter trusting a driver who you don't know.
Lastly, make sure your medical insurance covers stuff like scooters.

Not to split hairs, but trying to meet a travel buddy who will be a complete stranger - yet you want them to pilot a scooter while you're the passenger - is the very definition of not knowing what you're getting yourself into.
No big deal - it's your decision - but don't pretend it's something that it's not.

Huh? Psychopaths or serial killers?!?! Sorry, I didn't make myself clear. LOL
I was referring to trusting a stranger to pilot a scooter with you as the passenger. Motorcycle/scooter accidents are rampant in SE Asia. You need a very experienced and very competent driver to help even the odds - especially with the added burden of a passenger which severely impairs a scooter's agility to function properly.
