China is an enormous country. Costs vary wildly depending on where you're travelling and on your travel style. I assume you speak some Chinese?

Literally the basics, ill be going to Beijing and pretty much starting teaching straight away for the equiv of approx 800 pounds per month with accommodation/bills all provided. So that's 800 to live off for food and travel etc. How much based on that do u think id initially need when first arriving to live off etc? Thank you.

If I understand you correctly ...
You will arrive in Beijing & start work almost immediately, have bills & accommodation paid for the month & get 800 Pounds at the end of the month. And you want to know how much you need for that first month? Right?
I would say that you should try to live on the 800 since you will be doing that for the foreseeable, but a google search for 'cost of living in Beijing'
Maybe it's of some use.

According to the Website I gave you, Beijing is just over half as expensive as New York, which I expect to be about the same as London.
So - I don't see why 800 Pounds would not be good enough to live off as you will be able to cook your own meals. As for going out. How often do you want to go out? If you are drinking, every night might not be possible. Cutting out booze is always a good ploy if you do not want to spend money. Stick to eating out what Chinese folks eat, instead of drinking & your money will go far. And you will have Chinese people to meet & socialize with, Just that will be entertaining in itself. Exploring just Beijing will take you a while I expect.
