British Citizen travelling to Canada then to USA by land?

Is it easier to cross via greyhound or amtrak? Just read if you cross via amtrak you fill the forms in during the train and just hand over. Sorry for the questions just trying to plan my after steps in seattle and portland etc and don't want to be held at customs etc.
