Seattle to Disneyland along Pacific Coast Highway

Mu husband and I are taking a road trip from Seattle to Southern CA in June with 3 kids (11, 12, and 14). They all travel well in a car. We want to get onto the Pacific Coast Highway somewhere in Oregon and maybe stop at the Sea Lion Caves. We also want to stop somewhere at the California Redwoods for a some photos. We want to stop in Santa Cruz also. We have never done this trip before so we have no idea of other 'points of interest'. Any recommendations?
We are hoping to leave on a Thursday evening and make it to Portland, then we will have Friday, Saturday, and Sunday to get to Southern CA. We will play in CA M,T,W,Th. We will drive straight back via I-5 Friday and Saturday.
Does this sound do-able?

it is just a simple math question. divide 3 days into a thousand miles.

If you take 101 the entire way, you'll bypass some of the most scenic coastline in the world! In Northern California you should switch instead to Highway 1 because the area south of SF is awesome. You will want to stop in the Monterey Peninsula to see the Monterey Aquarium, Point Lobos Park, Carmel Village, and later Big Sur and Hearst Castle to name but a few places. Yes, it will be crowded in summer!

California is considerably more crowded than the Pacific NW, and be sure to bring enough water with you (the shelves could be empty in the south). Just drive through LA, and after Disneyland, you'll want to see the San Diego beach areas.

"We will drive straight back via I-5 Friday and Saturday" - This does not sound like fun!!!

This trip is surely do-able. It does pack a lot in for that time period. You will be spending a lot of time on the road. I would consider taking about two weeks for such a trip, but it appears that you are using about 1 1/2 weeks which could work. I would have suggested the Redwood Forest, but you already have considered that. San Francisco has a lot to offer, so you may want to consider taking some time there. The kids should love it too. They will also enjoy Disneyland, but you may want to give a reasonable amount of time to that. You did not say how far south that you were going in California. I would suggest trying to get to the beaches of San Diego as another post has suggested. Your trip does sound like fun.
