What to do in Manila?

What are your impressions of Manila (good and bad)? What are your recommended places and activities?

visit a manila envelope factory?

I haven't been back in a few years but Casinos are probably still available. I always stayed in the Ermita area of Manila. There is nightlife in this area, hotels with reasonable prices and even a few hostels. Ermita is quick ride from the airport too right down Roxas passing by the Mall off Asia. In Ermita area the Robinson Place Mall is a big draw too.

There were times the streets were dirty and with poor lighting. Then things got a little better, streets a little cleaner, Roxas Boulevard drew more locals when the streets looked safer at night. Then the light bulbs weren't changed on the light poles as often as required and streets got a little darker again. Cockroaches come out when streets have poor lighting! Can't speak for current conditions today.

There are tours you can sign on to through travel agencies. There is a boat ride to Corregidor for a "light and sound" show that is interesting. There are some walking tours. Hopping on and off jeepneys is kind of fun (and cheap) when you figure the routes out.

I think if you are visiting the Philippines for the first time Manila is worth a visit. There is rail service in the city area. I had no problems with the taxis and I always used the meter. There are bus stations for long distance travel and other private transportation.

Any simple Google check will give you "things to see and do" for Manila.

I first visited Manila when I was a much younger man in the military. Came back every now and then for past 15 years. Guess I am overdue for another visit.

do u go to manila alone or will u visit the philippines? because if its manila alone, then just visit historical sites, etc. but philippines i more than just manila. try to visit boracay, el nido, camiguin island, etc. u can google those places and check it out.
