StuTomNickH has indicated that this thread is about North America
do you have a smart phone? Get the air BnB app and google a hostel directory for the US.
it is a bit early for camping in the northern part of the country but if your route is more southern it is doable.
freeway exits have blue signs before them that list gas, food and lodging.
I have slept in the car before but you have to be careful where you do it.
What about the cost of licensing, taxes and insuring that $900. SUV?
Licensing and taxes are pretty minimal cost. Insurance can be difficult since you're not resident and don't have a US driving licence. However I found a licence quick and easy to obtain and that solved most of the problems.
Besides BnB, also check out KOA campgrounds, or check out the camping info for each state (check out each state's website for their state parks, then go to the camping info link on those states). Also, check out the national parks, which also have camping within each of them.
For example, if you wanted to camp in Utah, go to the following website:
http://utahstateparks.reserveamerica.com/
(I picked Utah because I think it has the most unusual parks of any state in the country).
Then keep in mind that you may need to temper your camping decisions based upon weather issues (it can be both too cold or too warm in many spots in Utah depending upon when and where you want to camp).
Enjoy.
the camping will be a little chilly in april unless you have a heater in a tent or maybe find a yurt.
Hostels might be a cheaper way to go. Camping in April could be cold in the northern states. Seeing as how you will be traveling for 90 days, it would be warmer by June for camping in the northern states. The southern states would probably be OK in April for camping. Check the weather with a weather app as you go. There are also many inexpensive motels throughout the country. If you are traveling on freeways, there will be signs for exits where lodging is available. Many of the motel chains as well as privately owned ones could provide cheaper stays. I would not recommend sleeping in your vehicle because you would not be familiar with the areas that you may be in and it could be dangerous.
Your trip plans sound terrific. You should have a wonderful time.
Hi
finding reasonable hotels say a few days before has worked for me using Priceline and bidding. Also check out couch surfing as a way to meet nice people and learn about the local area from a local, even for a few days during your journey.
As far as hotels go a clean two star with good reviews can be very comfortable. When bidding on Priceline I usually try for the five star but I have been very pleased with some of the two stars.
Thank you very mach!
