Hi all. Me and my friend have booked to go to go away on the 5th October 2010. We start in Thailand, which we will spend a month there and then onto Australia for 11 months. I have been looking through some insurance companies so I know roughly how much insurance will cost. I looked on money supermarket and the cheapest quote I got was £110.39. This covers medical expenses up to £1,000,000, Personal liability cover up to £1,000,000, Cancellation cover up to £1,000 and Baggage cover up to £500. The company is called Infinity (Alpha 100 Backpacker). Does this price sound right to you guys or does it seem too cheap? Also has anyone heard of this company? This policy does cover countries I will be visiting. If anyone could get back to me soon, I would be very greatful. Thanks in advance, Lee.

Ive not heard of that company, but go compare and direct line are good, you should check them out.

I haven't heard of that company either. Check out World Nomads. That's where I bought my boyfriends travel inssurance. You can take a look at the policy and prices!

It's also worth checking out who actually underwrites the insurance. Most companies offering travel insurance will use a different company to underwrite it, so the company you deal with in the event of a claim won't be the same as the company you bought the insurance from. And prices will vary a lot for what could ultimately be the same insurance deal.

Be very careful to read the smallprint on Direct Line policies. I have heard so many hard luck stories from people who have put in claims and been brushed aside.
I'm not saying D.L. is bad - far from it, they've been around for years, but their smallprint does seem to be very excessive and it's good to make sure that the cover you need is included in the policy you buy.
offers its members travel insurance at a discounted rate. The insurer was QBE and going through YHA, I saved a fair bit.
Whichever company you go with, make sure you read the fine print and check who their underwriter is. Some have an excess for every claim - $100 or $200. The health/medical cover is the most important.
for overseas visitors. Reciprocal Health Care Agreements exist between Australia and the UK.
