Hello everyone, I'm Susan, and I'm new, so please be gentle
Here are some quick thoughts...
11 Months!?!?!! WOW!! Very nice!
That will give you time to settle in some place for a while if you are enchanted by it. That was one of the biggest -- and most pleasant -- surprises during my RTW last year.
My flight flexibility allowed me to hang out in northern Thailand (Chiang Rai and Chiang Mai) for several weeks, and 3 weeks in Amecameca, Mexico. (Amecameca is a small town with true Mexican flavor, flanked by two 17000' mountains.)
You never know when you might meet some fun locals, love the food and culture, and just decide to hang out for a while.
I also had the luxury of taking some trips back home during the RTW, but I was travelling alone. You may not have that need.
Do you have a certain hobby that you really like? For example, would you be interested in doing various treks around the world? Or visiting various religious buildings? Museums? Gardens? I built into my RTW several treks (Cotswolds, Hilltribes in northern Thailand, Nepal), and visits to some gardens (Kirstenbosch being the most beautiful I have ever visited...just to keep in mind for when you do get down to Cape Town).
I found Dubai the most fantastic city I have ever seen. And it was on sale last summer! Hotter than you know what, but there's also a gorgeous beach there...as well as indoor skiing, of course! The Palm is other-wordly.
Taj Mahal was spectacular, of course. Took the train from Delhi and had a little sleeper area up a ladder.
Visiting my buddy in Karachi was cool.
Geez, if you can get there Nepal's Himalayas are incredible. The 1-hour flight around Everest is a must, as is sunrise at Sarangkot. And there is certainly a tremendous range of hiking all around the country.
Can't help you on South America as I saved that for my 2nd RTW -- later this year. :-)
