Not quite necessarily; I've had jobs where I was paid with a cheque. But in general, yes.
is this easily set up on arrival? i.e. going to the bank, will i be required to provide an address?
Yes, it's quite trivial to set it up once you've arrived in the country. Walk into any bank branch within a couple of weeks of your arrival with your passport (after the first few weeks they need more forms of identification, most of which you wouldn't have), deposit $50, and give them the address of your hostel for them to send the debit card to (this'll take about a week). You can have them set the frequency of bank statements to once a year (or maybe nowadays they even allow you to cancel paper bank statements altogether) so those won't be sent to the hostel.
